Knee Injuries
Injured your knee at work?
A knee injury at a work-related injury is not uncommon, particularly for those who use their knee joints a lot during work. These individuals can be people who stand for extended hours at a time, construction workers, and truck drivers. Putting pressure on the knee, repeatedly moving equipment, or releasing and pressing on pedals can put a lot of strain on a knee joint resulting in immediate or gradual injuries. Recovery from knee injuries can take months and can lead to individuals not being able to return to the same job.
Types of Injuries
To qualify for workers’ comp, the injury must be directly related to work-related duties or circumstances. Whether the injury is from a single event or a reoccurring event leading to an injury, workers’ compensation may be available. There are many types of injuries that may happen.
Cartilage Tears
Your meniscus is the cartilage that lays between the bones in your knee to add a protective cushioning. The meniscus may tear if over-extended which may lead to symptoms including no pain at all, severe pain, or feeling as though your knee will give out.
Ligament Tears
Injuries to the ligaments in the knee are often a resulting from twisting or over-stretching the area. Ligaments are bands of fibers found between bone to bone and help these all connect to each other. If these ligaments over-stretch, it can tear away from the bones. This type of injury can be one of the most painful and in extreme cases, may require surgery.
Tendon Tears
Tendons help connect bones to muscles. The most common tendon injury is to the patellar tendon which is in front of the knee and often injured from wear-and-tear. Injury to this tendon can further impact the front of the knee. In addition, the tendon can become inflamed and cause tendonitis to the patellar. It has also been found that multiple occurrences of tendinitis can the results in a patellar tendon tear.
